Supporting clients to achieve nearly £500,000 in first round of UK government heat efficiency scheme with an array of heat consultancy services
Key project achievements
- Completion of eight applications across three major clients, including Stockport Homes and the National Trust
- Projects varied hugely across historic sites, estates and large property portfolios
- Work included improvements to biomass boilers, heating system efficiencies, district heating schemes, as well as technical assessments, optimisation studies and contractor management
______________
The first round of the Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) was a £4.2m grant scheme for the improvements of existing heat networks in England and Wales, specifically for those operating or managing existing district heat networks or communal heating systems under public, private, or third sector ownership.
The HNES programme, funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) - made up of both revenue and grant schemes - included a demonstrator that Reheat supported three major clients to access across 8 projects. The locations varied widely, from campsites, to historic estates, and housing associations, with Reheat delivering a wide range of heat consultancy services for each client.
The following examples demonstate in summary work undertaken by Reheat during the first round projects.
National Trust - Lyme Park, Cheshire
Capital Grant
- Reheat proactively made National Trust aware of the HNES grant
- Work improved the controls and hydraulic arrangement of the main house internal heating system
- Network distribution efficiency was 40%. Reheat’s work is projected to reach efficiencies of 70-80% with substantial cost and Co2e saving implications
National Trust - Great Langdale Campsite, Cumbria
Capital Grant
- Proposal to replace the heat mains and add controls to a small heat network fueled by a biomass boiler
- Network provides heat and hot water to a small shop, two cottages for staff and the campsite shower blocks
Stockport Homes Group - Lancashire Hill, Stockport
Capital Grant
- Large 1960s-constructed estate with communal heating system, connecting 305 properties to a biomass and gas boiler system
- Historically, the medium rise apartments have been heated via a direct heating system
- Contractor work included 305 Heat Interface Unit (HIUs), new controls and export pumps in the existing plant room to deliver improved network energy efficiency and reduced fuel consumption
- Reheat technically assessed all proposed works, subsequently undertaking contractor management and client engineering duties alongside Stockport Homes Group
Stockport Homes Group - York Street, Stockport
- Mid-1960s estate with district heating network, connecting 6 blocks, and providing heating and hot water to 227 properties
- 60-year-old steel pipe in poor state of repair and not insulated to modern standards, suffering from a number of leaks and largely inaccessible without major disruptive works
- Reheat delivered vital report on the design and work required to upgrade the secondary and tertiary parts of the heat network. This fed into Stockport Homes’ wider program of heat network improvements
